If they are interested in undertaking postdoctoral research in the domains of neuroscience and multiple sclerosis, international students from all around the world are encouraged to apply to the ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Exchange Program.

The program’s objectives include encouraging the creation of a group of knowledgeable research scientists who are particularly interested in MS-related issues and maximizing information sharing. It is envisaged that initially many fellowships would be awarded each year.

Scholarship and Benefit Coverage

The following are the advantages of an ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship:

  • The fellowship will pay each fellow a salary of €55,000 each year.
  • Additionally, ECTRIMS will pay for the selected candidate’s round-trip, in-class transportation from their home to the training site; however, family members’ travel expenses will not be paid.
  • The host institution will be compensated by ECTRIMS and will be taken into account when determining the fellow’s employment. The fellow will receive a stipend from the host institution in accordance with their unique payment policies and schedules.
  • Travel costs for relocating to the training site may be immediately reimbursed to the fellow upon production of receipts to ECTRIMS.
  • The institution is required to pay the fellow’s stipend (sometimes referred to as a “salary”) from the ECTRIMS award at the appropriate rate for the fellow’s stage of training.
  • Any remaining money can be used to support any institutional social benefits (health insurance, pensions, and other benefits), as needed, by the institution.
  • If the total stipend plus perks is greater than the amount specified by the award, the institution/mentor is responsible for paying any additional costs not covered by the ECTRIMS award.
  • The estimated fellow’s annual total compensation and annual social benefit expenditures must be specified by the host institution.
  • Other sources of funding that will be used to support the overall costs must be stated if the entire required costs of the fellow (pay plus benefits) exceed the annual or prorated ECTRIMS award.
  • The actual research that will be done there is expected to be funded by the mentor and the host university.
  • No further funds will be available for things like trips, books, journal subscriptions, etc.
  • Fellows will be obliged to attend annual ECTRIMS Congresses for the term of their fellowship and present their supported research (either at a young researchers’ session or in another setting).
  • ECTRIMS will pay for separate travel and accommodation costs associated with congress participation.

Requirements For The ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Candidates must meet the criteria given below in order to be eligible for an ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship:

  • Languages required: Depending on the demands of the host institution
  • Every country in the world is eligible
  • The advanced degree(s) of a candidate must have been attained prior to the start of the fellowship
  • At the time of application, fellows should not have spent more than a year receiving postdoctoral training from the same host institution or mentor. Senior candidates must have a maximum of five years’ postdoctoral experience as of the application deadline (PhD, MD, ScD, or equivalent).
  • MD, PhD, ScD, or other professional degrees equivalents are acceptable credentials for scientists and medical practitioners.
  • The average age of successful applicants will be under 40; however, there might be exceptions in rare circumstances.
  • According to candidates and their mentors, a language barrier must not cause any disruptions to the training process.
  • Candidates of any nationality are eligible to apply to this program, but postdoctoral research training must be done at a laboratory or healthcare facility in Europe.
  • The fellow should, to the extent possible, return to his or her original home institution to obtain employment after the fellowship period, but this is not required. During the application process, plans for post-fellowship employment should be clearly discussed.

How Do I Apply For An ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship?

Please follow the instructions below to apply for the ECTRIMS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Exchange Program:
(1) To create an account, select “Apply Now.
(2) Submit the application in full.
(3) The application for the fellowship must be accompanied by the following documentation:
a shortened resume and bibliography for the applicant, not to exceed five pages. To apply for fellowships, you must use the “biographical sketch” form that ECTRIMS has made available in the online system.
An online application that has been completed and submitted through the ECTRIMS website (www.ectrims.eu).
Career aspirations of the candidate (not to exceed one page).
a succinct summary of the study in no more than 250 words.
a summary of the research project that is no longer than six pages long and includes figures, tables, and references
a document, such as a diploma, attesting to the applicant’s ability in the mother tongue
(4) By December 1st, please send the additional items to fellowship@ectrims.eu by email. These should NOT be provided with the items mentioned in Second Step, but rather under tight confidentially. Please make sure to remind your referees to include the applicant’s NAME in big letters on every page of their letters.
An announcement from the training center:
1) A letter of support from the department chair (or other relevant institutional official) at the proposed host institution accepting the proposed fellow, should a fellowship be awarded.

2) A letter of admission for the ECTRIMS fellowship and payments from the training center. The necessary form can be downloaded from the online application system, and the applicant should send it to the institution for completion before sending it back to ECTRIMS.

The prospective mentor submits a letter of support, emphasizing interactions with the potential fellow and the intended research plan in particular. A shortened current curriculum vitae and bibliography for the potential mentor, not to exceed five pages, should be included. Use the “biographical sketch” form found in the online system for applying for fellowships. This documentation should be provided by the candidate to the mentor.

Referees from additional games: A minimum of three letters of recommendation, either from the fellow’s home institution or from overseas, from people who are familiar with the proposed fellow and who can speak to the fellow’s qualifications and likelihood of success in a research or clinical career. One of these letters should be sent by the degree mentor for the sought fellow. a letter from the home institution welcoming the fellow back to the organization and describing the kind of role that will be available once the fellowship period has ended, if relevant.
