HISTORY
In October 2000, the Gates Foundation established the Gates Cambridge Trust by donating US$210 million to the University of Cambridge. This is still the single-largest gift given to a university in the UK.
The Trust is in charge of overseeing every aspect of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship program. It has a Board of 10 distinguished Trustees that meets twice annually to discuss the overall strategic direction of the program.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation picked two of the Trustees, and the University selected the other eight. A Director of Finance, a Programme Director, and a small administrative staff work with the Provost (CEO) to supervise all operational aspects of the Trust’s activities. You can find all the details on the People page.
